Wolé Adesemoye - Q&A

What did the 'Last Man Standing' show consist of?

Last Man Standing looked at the indigenous sports of ten very different communities, from the Arctic to the Amazon, from Africa to Asia, to uncover some of the toughest events on the planet, and provided an insight into the ancient history and culture of some of the world's most remote areas and the people who live there.

To really learn about each particular sport, six athletes from the UK and USA spent a week immersed in the sport and culture. The athletes ate and slept with the community and lived as they do. They trained with them and learn rare insights into the sport and the way of life. At the end of the week, they took part in the activity and played by the local rules.

The series explored the cultural and religious significance of each sport with significance of each sport with sensitivity and respect. With the help of local guides and mentors the athletes also learnt about the history and relevance of each sport.

How did you prepare for the show?

As the locations were kept top secret we never knew where we were going until we arrived at the airport. It wasn't until we arrived at our final destination that we were told what sporting event we would be participating in. This made it very difficult to preparing myself physically and mentally for each location. So I continued with my normal training routine

What does your weekly training programme consist of?

Prior to Last Man Standing I had always used a conventional gym and mostly did weight training combined with boxing training. On arrival in the different locations for Last Man standing I soon realized that many of the locals were somehow stronger and quicker then myself. They used bodyweight exercise performed in their natural environment with very few if any pieces of equipment. I then began to realise that I needed to change my own training regime in order to gain the skills needed to progress through the competition. During this time I realised how amazing bodyweight exercise really was. Not only was it convenient but also it allowed me wake up in any environment and continue with my routines. Since returning I have kept up with my body weight exercise training that has remained very effective and convenient.

What was the most challenging part of the show?

The final location was the most challenging experience as we were in Papa New Guinea. We had to complete a 40 km canoe race over 2 days. This was in the open shark infested sea and when we slept at night crocodiles inhabited the islands we stopped over at. Not only did I have to concentrate on competing I had to manage to calm nerves by knowing that one wrong move I was would end up in the sea.

Did you ever feel that you weren't going to make it through one of the challenges?

Never I always kept focused and tried to concentrate to my fullest. No Brain, No Pain.

Did you use any Maximuscle products whilst filming the show?

Part of the concept of the show was the fact that we were stripped of all our Western necessities and there was not even soap or ipod's allowed! Our bags were always searched upon arrival to the tribes. So during filming I was unable to follow my usual supplements plan. The minute I was released back into civilization I was downing my Promax Extreme, Viper Extreme, Maxi-Gakic, Ache Free, CLA-1000, Thermobol and most important when run down Immune Support. All of these products kept me strong on my return to be able to train strong and keep my health.

How did Maximuscle's sports nutrition products help you through the show?

Due to all the nutrients and essential vitamins I was lacking in during filming I really believe that using the supplements kept my energy levels high and kept me on top of my game.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Being selected for Last Man Standing was a big accomplishment as I was against 6,000 other applicants. Also travelling around the world and competing in some of the toughest sports in the world.
