I'm Ugo Monye - 26 years old, born in north London (Arsenal supporter!).
The sport I compete in is Rugby Union. I play for the Harlequins and have been there since 2001. I love my sport, it has every component which I believe makes it the best sport in the world. It has great intensity, physicality, pace, tactical awareness, respect for officials and not least a huge amount of emotion!
Weekly programme consists of a good blend of weight training, speed and speed agility work, rugby training and tactics. We train and play on average 16-20hrs a week which is based on 5 days a week, twice a day sessions.
I take Sports Vitamin, Viper Active, Viper Boost as well as the Recovermax, as well as Maxi-Milk and Promax
The highlight of my career to date has to be the 3rd test in South Africa, winning the game and scoring the winning try was very special.
Heroes would have to be Jonah Lomu, as a winger I have a huge amount of respect for him, he changed the way rugby was played in the '95 World Cup, was a great try scorer and an all round exceptional rugby player. The 2nd would be Roger Federer, I enjoy tennis and he is a guy who has pretty much done it all, including recently breaking a record at Wimbledon. What impresses me about him, more than most other sports people, is his mental capacity. He has the ability to get on with things regardless of decisions given against him (rightly or wrongly) - a true champion.
Love to chill out on days off, hang-out with friends. My true pleasure is shopping!
You try and block everything out, i.e the crowd. You can only control the controllables, so you need to constantly remind yourself of that. In addition it's important to have a lot of self belief, knowing that you've probably been in this situation many times before and came out of it well.
Maxi-Milk is my favourite product. Firstly it tastes great! Plus protein is very important for me when we're training and so to easily pick up a carton of Maxi-Milk which has 33g of protein in it makes it hassle free and very convenient.
It's always a good idea to have goals, and my goals after the season I've had, is to win silverware with Harlequins, have a successful year with England, and obviously there's the World Cup 2 years away, so it would be great to play in that as well as potentially winning it again!
