Rajko Radovic - Q&A

Tell us about yourself and the sport you compete in?

My history is in competitive team sports, where I played at the highest level of British University sport and also American Intercollegiate sport. Following that I became the pioneer of my fathers Fitness4x4 method, setting two world records in upper body endurance. In 2007 I was selected as the ‘Fitness Guru’ to take part in the first ever series of Last Man Standing. At the end of the series I was tied in first place, having won 3locations.

I am currently taking part in the Dragan Challenge and looking to set new world records in upper body endurance.

How did you become involved in your sport?

After picking up a back injury whilst playing intercollegiate football (soccer) my father suggested I take up his method to build up my body and prevent future injury. I therefore used his fitness method initially as a means to rehabilitate from injury – but then soon realised the possibilities if I pushed myself to explore new boundaries in this method. A year later my Resting Heart Rate had dropped to only 34bpm and my VO2 Max was one of the highest recorded at Loughborough – all from my Fitness4x4 training. I therefore decided to take it further and begin pioneering the method – not just to see what records I could set for myself, but to take the method to other people.

What does your weekly training programme consist of?

6days Training:
2 Hour of Power classes
3 Fitness4x4 ‘Dragan Challenge’ sessions
1 alternative day (could include running or swimming or team sport or any challenge)

Which Maximuscle products do you use?

Promax, Protrient, Recovermax, Viper Extreme Bars and Ache Free.

How do Maximuscle products help you during your training and whilst you compete?

Recovery from intense training sessions and increased energy during training. Also the psychological edge of knowing I’m getting that little bit extra nutrition and fuel to my system, from a respected source.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Outscoring the entire opposition team to win the match in the inter-village cricket match in episode 6 of Last Man Standing - despite a broken toe. And as a result having a baby in the village of Tiquaqua ( Papua New Guinea) named after me. Uniquely Unforgettable.

Who are your heroes?

In mainstream sport, Michael Jordan and Goran Ivanisevic. Michael Jordan for his absolute commitment to excellence, all the time, every time. Goran Ivanisevic for finally winning Wimbledon and making it happen against all the odds.

In life, the people who are brave enough to face up to the system and try to make it better…no matter the danger to themselves. I’m sure they’ve all been said before but: Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, Jesus.

What do you enjoy doing on your days off?

I don’t often take days off because I enjoy my life most days, but in my spare time I truly love playing guitar, composing music and performing music.

I also love to write real letters to close friends – with real pen and paper!

Take on any kind of challenge – whether sporting or physical or just unusual.

How do you stay relaxed and focused when the pressure is on?

I always put things into perspective by thinking about specific things: I think about how it felt when I was injured and unable to take part in anything. I think about what it’s like to be born into a poor remote tribe where you have no opportunities. And these thoughts make me really focused and really appreciative of where I am in this moment. I also pray and meditate as much as I can – but usually just mornings.

When facing a particular huge challenge though, I simply fast forward to ‘after the event’ and ask myself – what do I want to look back and say? Do I want to wonder if I could have done more? Do I want to feel regret for having been unecesrarily nervous? And when I ask these questions and answer a definite NO, then it helps me get into focus and feel calm in the moment.

What is your favorite Maximuscle product and why?

I think my favourite is recovermax during performance and promax straight after. Recovermax is just so enjoyable during performance because I’m usually pushing so hard that my body is desperate for any boost it can get. In Hour of Power class I always work at my absolute peak and there are only two opportunities during the hour to take a quick drink. And I look forward to a quick swig of Recovermax.

And I love promax after training because I imagine it feeding the muscle and it reminds me that I’ve just done a great training session and it’s my little reward.

Do you have any future goals?

Plenty! Here are a few:

1. Establish a fully operational RETREAT in the mountains of Montenegro on land belonging to my family. To do this in an eco-friendly way, working with the local villagers to create an inspirational fitness retreat and healthy community.

2. To set an official Guinness world record in endurance dumbbell lifting.

3. To see the Hour of Power class and Fitness4x4 practised in gyms around the country.

4. To host my own television show about health and well-being, and travel the world to take on the biggest and strongest athletes I can find – and when I beat them, to teach them about the concept of Energy Output.

5. To record my second music album and tour this album throughout Europe and America.
