Lucy Boggis - Q&A
Tell us about yourself and the sport you compete in..
I have been competeing in the heptathlon since I was 12. It involves 7 events that is spaced out over the weekend, having 4 events on one day and on the last day having the final three. On the first day we start off with the hurdles, high jump, shot putt and then finish the day with a 200m. The final day is long jump, javelin, and we end the weekend with a hard 800m, by this time our bodies are feeling the pain. I love the event and hope to be competing in the 2012 Olympic games in London. Which means more training and more painful 800m.
How did you become involved in your sport?
I used to enjoy all the sports at school, and really loved netball, which was the main sport at my school, and when it came to the summer season we would do athletics, and I fell in love with it and begged my mum to take me to our local track and join the club. Being a really hyper kid, I tried every event that I could, and realised that I didn’t want to focus on one event as it would be too easy, so I got straight into the multi-events scene.
What does your weekly training programme consist of?
I train 6 days a week, with a day off normally playing golf with my boyfriend. During the days that I train they consist of technical sessions in the morning ie: hurdles and javelin, and then in the afternoon I would do running sessions for 800m or 200m as well as another technical event. In the summer, durining the season, I keep up my weight lifting, but only do one session a week. In the winter training changes alot, I would do alot more running, getting me fit, heavy weights, circuts, and do lighter technical sessions.
How do Maximuscle products help you during your training and whilst you compete?
Recovermax helps me through competition and at the end of really hard training sessions. Because I have just put my whole body under a lot of stress and broken it down, the Recovermax, is an amazing drink that helps repair all the damage I have just done to my body through the competition or training. It gives me back all of the minerals etc that I have just lost. It has made a huge difference to me during the days of the hepathlon, as I don’t feel my body feeling sore like it used to before I started taking it. Promax is great for after training sessions too, getting the needed protein into me to help build my muscles, and is also great, because you can have it as a quick snack before leaving the track, so your not starving on the way home. What has been the highlight of your career so far? Competing this winter in the Under 23 International, in which I was captin of the Great Britain team being the youngest there and also bringing back a sliver medal.
Who are your heroes?
I would have to say that it would be Denise Lewis, as she inspired me to try and be the best heptathlete I can be.
What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
When I have a day off I like to play golf with my boyfriend, or when the surf is good, chuck the boards in the back of my boyfriends pick up truck, drive down to the coast and surf.
How do you stay relaxed and focused when the pressure is on?
Something that I think has helped keep me focused is smiling as much as I can in the situation that I am in, if it is going badly, if I begin to get sad and have a frown on my face, I have no chance of doing well, but if I stay positive and smile, I can turn the situation around. Also taking a deep breath before I do any of my events, feels like a huge lift off my body.
What is your favorite Maximuscle product and why?
Promax, because it does the job and tastes amazing! My favorite snack!
Do you have any future goals?
Future goals for me would be to stay uninjured as best I can, 2012 Commonwelth Games, and 2 years after the, the Olympic Games in London, where I will be 23.
Do you have a favourite exercise / favourite routine or class?
My favorite sessions have to be high jump sessions. Its one of my best events, and when its going well, it's so much fun!
What’s your favourite food?
Porridge, I have it every morning, and I don’t think that I will ever get board of it!
