Maximuscle Ambassador and performance athlete Daniel Keatings went one step further this year at the European Championships in Birmingham, securing his first gold medal in major competition. Rated as one of the best gymnasts in Britain, Daniel competed in the 2009 championships in Milan and achieved a very impressive silver medal in the All Around event. However this year in Birmingham, Daniel went one step further to secure Gold on the Pommel Horse, beating fellow GB and Olympic Bronze medallist Louis Smith in to second place.
This performance has also confirmed Daniels position in the sporting history books. Not only is he the first European champion in the history of British male gymnastics, he is now the only British man to have won a title at this level. An incredible achievement, everyone at Maximuscle would like to congratulate Daniel for his British sporting first, and look forward to continuing to support him in the run up to the 2012 London Olympics.
Well done Daniel and well done the entire GB team!
I started gymnastics at the age of five when my parents enrolled me into my local club after I wasn't allowed to join my Dads kickboxing club as I was too young. Their intention was for me to get flexible until I was old enough to join my Dads Kickboxing Club, my talent for gymnastics was quickly recognised and I was recommended to join an All boys club in Northampton. Two years later I was recommended again to move to an Elite club in Huntingdon where I still train today with my long term coach Paul Hall.
Gymnastics is an Olympic sport and I compete in the Mens Artistic competition on six apparatus in the All Around competition - Floor, Pommel, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and High Bar. I am also regarded as a specialist on the Pommel Horse and I am currently ranked in the top 10 in the world and finished 9th at the Beijing Olympiad and 7th at the World championships in Stuttgart 08.
My best achievement to date was when I won the All Around silver medal at the European championships in Milan 09.
I train on average 36 hours a week over six days in Huntingdon.
Promax, Recovermax, Promax Meal Bars and Maxi-Milk.
They help me to train longer and harder with a quick recovery after an intensive days workout, and during competition they allow me to maintain my competitive edge throughout the competition.
Taking part in the Beijing Olympiad making the All Around final and finishing 9th on the Pommel.
Hiroyuki Tomita and Muhammad Ali.
I spend time with my girlfriend.
I just block out everything around me and concentrate purely on my own performance.
Chocolate Promax, I love the taste and how it allows me to train harder.
To medal at European, Commonwealth, World and Olympic Competitions.
