Chemmy Alcott - Q&A
Tell us about yourself and the sport you compete in..
Ski racing epitomises so many different physical needs which alter depending on each discipline so one day you need to be quick, light and agile and then the next you have to be strong and powerful. I love the diversity of the sport which is why I enjoy skiing all 5 disciplines but it definitely takes its toll on the body. Being the youngest and only girl of four children I grew up highly competitive and loved the energy of skiing.
How did you become involved in your sport?
I have been professional for 10 years now competing in 2 Olympics and 6 World Championships. Having started at the young age of 18 months I have never used the ‘well I am from London’ excuse!
What does your weekly training programme consist of?
It is very dependant on the time of year. Winter is racing time – the World Cup goes from October to April so that time is spent training tue to Friday, then racing through the weekend with Monday off or travelling. We ski intensely in the mornings and then lift weights and recover every afternoon. In the summer we try and optimize the time by becoming physically stronger and building endurance.
Which Maximuscle products do you use?
I use a lot of Promax daily. Viper I use to buffer before races. Every evening I take Maxi-EFA and Iron Kick. To increase my weight I have started taking creatine too.
How do Maximuscle products help you during your training and whilst you compete?
To make sure I get the correct nutrients exactly when and where I need them whether that be on the mountain or in the car travelling after a race!
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
11th Turin Olympics in the DH. Becoming the first British female ski racer to ever qualify for World Cup finals. 7th is my best World Cup finish.
Who are your heroes?
In sport there is no denying that Mohammed Ali was the greatest. And Lance Armstrong overcoming adversity to become the best in the world is a phenomenal achievement.
What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
I am quite a home body actually. I just bought a cottage so I like to stay there and look at the water. Although I am not great at sitting still – one of my most irritating personality traits!
How do you stay relaxed and focused when the pressure is on?
I listen to music – it helps me focus in on what is important.
What is your favorite Maximuscle product and why?
Viper – with such an intense racing schedule it keeps my legs fresh for day in day out competition.
Do you have any future goals?
I will win gold at the Winter Olympics.
