Hey everyone, hope you are all keeping well and staying on track...

As promised, here is my Protein Bar review! Big thanks to Jemma at Team Maximuscle, I know I said this on the Protein Shake review but the Customer Service team are great!

The most helpful online service I think I’ve ever had!

I have managed to leave my ‘nutrition’ info at the shop so I’ll add that on at the end later, if your like me you’ll want to know everything about this product!I have tried one other protein bar which was a German brand I believe and it was dreadful. The only way I could describe it would be ‘chewing on chalk’! So this has made me very wary of Protein bars, but I thought I’d give Maximuscle a go!

I chose the Promax Meal Bar as it is high in protein and that’s what I was looking for in a bar, something I could keep in my bag so after the gym if I had not prepared a shake I could have an alternative.

Maximuscle Promax MEal Bars

The Promax bars come in a box of 12, there are three flavours available : Chocolate, Chocolate & Orange and Chocolate & Cherry (I opted for cherry)!I’ve had this bar in my bag for a good few days and I’m impressed it wasn’t all squashed (my bag does take a beating)! I am a choc-o-holic so I was pretty excited to try this…..& Maximuscle, you didn’t let me downIt is honestly the nicest tasting bar ever, especially when you take into consideration it basically is a Protein Supplement Bar….last time I checked supplements were supposed to be a pain in the backside with no taste?! Not any more *hurrah*

So what would I compare it to? The first thing that jumped into my head ‘omg it’s like a cassis chocolate brownie’ (without the alcohol….obviously)! It just tastes like a chewy cherry brownie, I’ve even thought of cutting one into chunks to put into an ice cream sundae!

It’s just as good as the shakes too, I did an experiment of going to the gym doing my usual set workout for that day but instead of a shake….had a promax bar. Next day I was fit as a fiddle, still no aches so I’m definitely a protein bar convert!I always have one in my bag especially if I have a busy work day as they are a great mid-afternoon snack, I’ve started pairing one with my afternoon coffee…I used to have a piece of chocolate but this is so much better!

Some of the nutrition info I do know is the bar is actually low on the Glycaemic Index so anyone on a low GI diet can still enjoy the bars without worrying. The standard bar is 60g, now this 60g contains a whopping 21g of high quality protein which is a bonus if you find it hard to get enough protein into your diet through meals and snacks. There is under 3g saturated fat & each bar is 207 calories….which when compared to a 58g mars bar which has 260calories and 9.9g of fat….I’d rather have my protein bar thanks!

One thing I find frustrating on bars is when the ingredients are hard to read, thankfully they are not on the Promax Packaging and for your convenience I’m going to list here. Being wheat intolerant I do tend to get a bit ‘ocd’ with ingredients! Anyway : milk proteins, bulking agent : maltitol, dark chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, milk fat, soya lecithin, flavour), invert sugar syrup, oligofructose, collagen hydrolysate, fat reduced cocoa powder, vegetable oil, flavourings.

I’ll check my scribblings later to make sure I haven’t missed anything….if I have I’ll update it later.

Hope this helps at least one person, take it easy!
