One of the reasons that High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has become so popular is that it’s a very time-efficient way to train. But there’s another benefit that very few people are aware of.
Flex magazine reports on research showing that improving your cardiovascular fitness can boost your ability to burn fat. In other words, when you’re fitter, you’ll burn more fat at rest… when you’re lifting weights… even when you’re doing more moderate-intensity cardio, such as cycling or even walking.
Researchers from Brazil compared the fat-burning capacity of two groups during a treadmill run, and found that subjects with the highest VO2max (a measure of aerobic fitness) burned 60% more fat than subjects with the lowest VO2max.
And one of the best ways to get fit fast is with high-intensity interval training, “which can help to boost your VO2max and, in turn, your fat-burning potential.”
