For complete confidence and reassurance to all drug tested athletes and sports people, Maximuscle pioneered the world's first ISO17025 accredited commercial banned substance testing service for sports nutrition - which has now evolved into Informed-Sport. Informed-Sport is a supplement testing programme, designed to test supplements and/ or their ingredients for inadvertent contamination with substances prohibited in sport.Reputable manufacturers do everything in their power to keep their supplements pure. However, even trace levels of contamination can have significant consequences and this requires a sensitivity of testing way beyond routine quality control systems.
The Informed-Sport standard provides a defined specification to consumers based on the very best scientific expertise and brings reassurance that products registered with Informed-Sport are safe and can be trusted.
Informed-Sport can test products and ingredients for over 200 substances that are prohibited in sport. These include substances that appear on the WADA Prohibited List. Substances may be included in the testing specification for a number of reasons, including:
- They are/were sold as a supplement e.g. androstenedione, DHEA
- They have been reported as a contaminant in a supplement e.g. 19-nor-androstenedione, stanozolol
- They have been the subject of widespread publicity linking them with adverse analytical findings and/or supplements e.g. THG, nandrolone
- They are widely available as a recreational drug and are potentially at a higher risk of being a contaminant e.g. cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy)
- They have been reported as an adverse analytical finding e.g. clenbuterol, strychnine, salbutamol, terbutaline
- They are chemically closely related to any of the substances above e.g. isomers, parent drugs, etc.
The range of substances included is reviewed regularly against current knowledge and intelligence, and updated as necessary. The following table outlines the ‘core' steroids and stimulants which are tested for in each and every batch.
